On Portraiture
For years, I’ve been drawn to empty spaces, following shadow and reflected light, away from the center. People appeared in my work from a distance - behind a long lens, deflected. When close up, I remained discrete and shot fast.
More often these days, I seek out projects demanding personal engagement, even if momentary. Confronted with a wary glance or an emergent smile, and perhaps a language barrier, a face appears, revealing a glimmer or a lot of ones’ self, yet holding something back.
